Upon returning home from “The Great Rapture Debate” between Dr. Doug Stauffer and Pastor Joe Schimmel in Colorado Springs, CO on June 19, 2016, I have been asked many times about my opinion of how the debate went. (more…)
Subsequent to this, Dr Ice issued a formal challenge to Pastor Schimmel to formally and publicly debate Pretrib history and origins at the upcoming Pre-Trib Research Center Prophecy Conference in December 2016. Dr Ice had already selected Dr Paul Wilkinson as a debate partner, and Pastor Schimmel chose bible expositor Jacob Prasch, while at the same time issuing a counter challenge that the scriptural basis for the Pretrib Rapture should also be debated as well. After negotiation it was agreed that there should be two debates: one to discuss Pretrib history and origins; and another to deal with the scriptural issues and concerns.
This roundtable discussion featuring Joe Schimmel, Jacob Prasch and John Haller breaks down the passage of scripture Dr. Ice used in his attempt to collect on our challenge.
“Left Behind or Led Astray?: Examining the Origins of the Secret Pre-Tribulation Rapture.” During the Q & A session T.A. McMahon joined in on the discussion and had some additional remarks concerning our DVD.
This roundtable discussion featuring Joe Schimmel, Jacob Prasch and John Haller is our official response to Dr. Paul Wilkinson and T.A. McMahon of The Berean Call. Both Wilkinson and T.A. McMahon made some very concerning comments to which we felt it necessary to officially respond.
Filmmaker, evangelist and renowned bible prophecy teacher Joel Richardson says it is a time of change for the church, especially when it comes to teachings about the End Times and the rapture. The author of the New York Times bestseller “The Islamic Antichrist” recently appeared with Joe Schimmel on Rick Wiles’ TruNews radio program to discuss what he believes is the false doctrine of a pre-tribulation rapture.
Wiles himself supports the post-tribulation position, stating, “I personally do not believe that by the year 2020, any credible person will be teaching the secret pre-trib rapture doctrine. I think the events that are coming in the next five years will utterly destroy the doctrine.”
The pre-tribulation school of thought has been an important force in American Christianity for decades, with proponents such as Hal Lindsey, Tim LaHaye and Thomas Ice. This school holds believers will be raptured before the great tribulation during the End Times, thus avoiding it. In contrast, Richardson believes the rapture will not occur until during the tribulation period. Thus, believing Christians will not be spared the persecution and calamities of the End Times.
Richardson is featured on a DVD exploring the issue entitled “Left Behind or Led Astray?” During the film, Richardson explains what he sees as the crucial importance of the issue.
One of the most common questions concerning the end times is who will populate the millennial kingdom. How will mortal bodies enter into the time period known as the 1000 year reign of Christ? Who will these people be?
An article critical of our new DVD Left Behind or Led Astray? posted by Miguel Hayworth for UK Apologetics Library begins friendly enough, with a statement in the beginning paragraph, “I will say that many people have said that the work that Joe Schimmel produced on the Satanic Agenda in Hollywood and the music industry to be commendable and the work he did on gay rights.”
However, most of the article deals with two main criticisms of the DVD: (1) “not all the early church fathers are listed in the film due to its content on one subject, what the film omits is that there are some of early Church Fathers are listed the Great Fathers … who were also called the “Eight Doctors of the Church” are regarded as the basis for the what was later to be recognized as the formation of the Roman Catholic Church, it eventually led later to the formation of Vatican 1…” and (2) “Joe Schimmel is promoting the idea that a Jesuit who is often seen to be representative of RCC had an agenda to push the Pre-trib view…”
The coming persecution has already begun to one degree or another. Street preachers in South Carolina have been handcuffed and hauled off to jail due to “noise pollution.” Christians in the Middle East are put to death in the name of Allah. Even a friend of mine, Wally Tope, was beaten into a coma by looters as he shared the gospel in Los Angeles during the riots. True, persecution has been the lot of the church since it’s inception and books like “Foxe’s Book of Martyrs” have testified of this fact down through the corridors of time.
I would like to give you 10 reasons not to waste your money on the reboot of the first Left Behind movie starring Nicholas Cage. I personally had serious problems with the movie from a theological, evangelical, eschatological and soteriological standpoint.
